NEW IN 2018/19 - Specialist High Skills Major - Energy
Welland Centennial Secondary School is proud to announce that we have received Ministry approval to deliver another exciting SHSM in Energy generation and conservation for the upcoming school year starting in September of 2018. This comes in addition to our 2 existing SHSM programs in Health & Wellness and Arts & Culture.
By offering an SHSM in Energy, students will have the opportunity to explore energy conservation, evolving technologies, and benefit from exposure to the careers associated with them. This SHSM allows academic streamed students to take a Technology SHSM in any of the Workplace or University / College stream. Through this program, students will experience on-site learning as well as field trips to power generation stations, wind and solar farms, as well as presentations in school for new-age technologies like geothermal heating and power generation.
As part of the SHSM programming, students will be given an opportunity to attend University and College visits to let them experience what their post-secondary options can be. The main program for the SHSM Energy is Technological Design (TDJ) and specifically sustainable architecture and building with a focus on alternative energy sources including solar, wind, hydro-electric and geothermal heating.
This is an exciting addition to our already growing Technology department and students are already enrolling in the program. See Mr. Barter if you are interested in becoming an SHSM - Energy graduate!
